Gregory C.  Oliver, M.D. FACS, FASCRS

Dr. Oliver was born in Newark, New Jersey in 1949. He was raised in New Jersey until going off to Colgate University in Hamilton, New York at the age of eighteen. After receiving a Bachelor of Arts Degree with honors in biology in 1972, he attended George Washington University School of

Medicine receiving a Doctor of Medicine degree in 1976. Dr. Oliver continued his surgical training at George Washington University first as a surgical intern and then as a first year resident from 1976 to 1978. He was elected to the AOA Honor Society. From 1978 to 1980 Dr. Oliver served as Lieutenant Commander in the United States Public Health Service Commission Corp. Upon completion of his term of service, he returned to George Washington where he completed his general surgery training in 1983. From 1984 through 1985 Dr. Oliver trained at the UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Program in Colon and Rectal Surgery. Upon completion in 1986 he became Board Certified in both general surgery and colon and rectal surgery. Upon completion of his colorectal residency, he return to George Washington University as Assistant Professor of Surgery until 1988. He returned to Plainfield and Edison, New Jersey to join Drs. Salvati, Rubin and Eisenstat at that time in the practice of colon and rectal surgery.

Dr. Oliver is an Associate Clinical Professor at Robert Wood Johnson, UMDNJ Medical School in New Brunswick as well as a senior attending at both Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield, New Jersey and John F. Kennedy Medical Center in Edison, New Jersey. He also holds a full clinical appointment at the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick.

Dr. Oliver is married to Ellen Oliver and has three children, Kate, Andrea and Michael.

His particular interests include physiologic aspects of continence and constipation. In addition, he has particular interest in transanal and low pelvic procedures for colorectal malignancies.

At the national level he has served as an Associate Member of the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery. He has also served as past program chairman for the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons. He’s a past president of the New Jersey Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons and is presently Secretary/Treasurer of the New York Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons and the Treasurer of the Pennsylvania Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons. Dr. Oliver is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons. He is a member of the Society of Surgeons of New Jersey, The Society of Surgeons of the Alimentary Tract, the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation, and SAGES.
